i watched my first anime when i was four( kiki's delivery service) , though at the time i hadn't even known what anime was, and 8 years later i dived head first into watching shows like Lovely Complex, ai yori aoshi, and to love ru. I was 13 when started to watch Urusei yatsura(rumiko takahashi's first work to gain an anime adaptation, and the first show of its kind), which is the show that took me from being an anime fanboy, to being a full blown otaku(or at least, that's when i realized that i was one)

Wow, that's awesome that you got invited to interview people. It's interesting to hear them talk about some of the differences between Japan and the U.S. Personally, I've come across some smelly people at anime conventions so I think they were lucky.

Nice interview and it's an interesting read, even though I am surprised that there are moneymaking-related questions in the mindset than I have expected.

What the three said about the people who enjoy anime-related stuff in Japan and those in the States is interesting, giving a contrast of attitude and atmosphere between the two sides of the world. Unfortunately, I have not been to conventions of either places, so I will just have to take the words for now. Nonetheless this does have some interesting reflection on how society treats this relatively "niche" interest and their communities.

The question regarding on fansub is quite a risky one to address directly to personels who are directly involved in anime, but the way it is asked is fairly well introduced, and it's good to see that the responses are well-worded and in a good way. Fansubbing, together with the existence of Internet, does bring a lot of grey areas into scene, whether it's an argument about the legality such thing or how much good / bad it brings to the industry and to the consumers / community. I somehow remind myself of how Haruhi swept the overseas communities back then with similar situations with the help of subs just like Madoka has last year.

Wow! Epic Posts, This is perfect for someone looking for a resolution for their addictive gaming habits. The only thing that I would like to add on this one are the new gaming genres (DOTA, League of Legends) these type of games are really addicting and compared to console games where you can just set a goal, save and stop, games from this genres feeds you to play more. The only way you'll stop playing is when you've drained up your energy.

Take this from someone who played games from this genres. The only way that I stopped my addiction is to uninstall the game on my pc and play sports outside with my friends.

Well It is right to say that we shouldnt download but the problem is how then Crunchyroll? It doesnt cover all the series, or buy? well if the price wasnt that ridiculously high we might consider buying the dvd's or blu-ray but it depends if there is english subtitle. Its kinda like a yo yo effect for us overseas. True the best way to watch whats currently showing in Japan is by fansub but if they are not happy about it then what the hell are we to do :/

One think that popped in mind is why not companies in japan work with some of the good fansubs which then can help spread of having english subtitles in the series for DVD/BD.

Thanks for your feedback on the interview, Udsahn! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and learned from it.
We were a little hesitant to let KaionIrui talk about such a touchy subject as fansub/piracy. But he raised a good point in that it was a legitimate question. It's an elephant in the room. We figured there was a bit of risk involved with asking this question, and that their reaction might turn the interview ugly. I'm glad that they were so open in actually discussing it rather than get offended or something. KaionIrui did an excellent job in putting the question in a very valid and real context.

The otaku acceptance in society is definitely a troubling factor. This cannot be solved easily since it's society's mentality that categorizes anime in the wrong manner. Most of society is ignorant to these details, just like how most people generalize that "video games are bad for you", they categorize and generalize anime. The Hentai Otaku article I wrote explains this very clearly.

It's an unfortunate downside to being an anime fan, but it's good to know that North Americans openly band together and not hate each other for our hobby. I think it's because most North Americans seek acceptance and therefore join groups that can validate them, where as Japan it's all about self-worth.

This was a most enjoyable and enlightening read buddy :). I wasn't entirely expecting, honestly, quite as highly insightful a read until I read the first few paragraphs.

I like that the mindset that was presented over the subject fansubs. Especially since it asked one of the most important questions. Which wasn't 'how do we stop them', but 'how do we make a legitimate way to spread our work and still get paid for it'.

In other words, it brings up the most troubling issues of it being more that fansubs exist out of two things: one 'demand', and two, in most cases, 'lack of service' to watch them.

I think that KaionIrui's pose for the question was made excellently.

I also can reciprocate the feeling that most feel about anime in general. That it's a 'cartoon' and therefor for 'children'. I was quite shocked when I first realized that anime both 'was' and 'was not' that way. No doubt the largest contributing factor to that mentality is that I can't really think of many animated shows made in America (where I live) that aren't produced for the younger audience. That and I can't really think of too many animated movies developed for older audiences.

The unfortunate response given to such is usually that of one being 'childish' for liking such. Blegh, it's like saying someone's childish for enjoying PC or console 'gaming' even though it's no longer as niche an activity it once was. I can imagine that in time anime might evolve along such lines, albeit it might be a lengthy amount of time :\.

Anyways, an enjoying read as always buddy! My thanks to all involved! :D

Take care!! XD
