Last night, my favorite fish wasn’t feeling well. My wife noticed weird behaviors in him, as he was struggling to swim, and lay at the bottom of the fish tank. He was turned sideways, and the color of his scales were very pale. My wife knew immediately that his time here was now limited.
He died in the middle of the night, and now lays motionless at the bottom of the tank. I’ll be giving him a proper burial later on today.
Here he is in his youth, enjoying the comfort of his home.
Here he is just after the New Years. His tail grew longer and looked very elegant.
They say that fish are protectors of the household, and that when a fish dies, it is taking the hit in place of a family member. I would like to think that my noble Joe-Joe has done the same for us. May he rest in peace.
So sad :'(
Rest in peace Joe-Joe.
This reminds me my whole guinea pig crew… but they are all now in the rodent heaven. I had 15 at once, leaving in an enclosure, and had to separate females and males haha.
Lovely legend, never heard about it. And can you say the same protectors-thing for guinea pigs? ^^;
So I buried him in the backyard. It was raining at the time. I felt so sad with my poor lifeless fish in my hand. I almost couldn’t bear taking him out of the aquarium. His long tail lay limp on my palm. He was so light that I could barely feel him on my hand. I gently lay him in his grave, said my good-bye, and covered it up. I was almost in tears, but held it in. The rain was more than enough.
Poor Joe-Joe, well at least he can rest in fish heaven now.
I had a fish that looked just like Joe-Joe and she (cortina) was the first fish and pet I ever got. I was devastated when she died. it’s surprising how attached to a fish you can get.
Thanks lostty. You’re right. You can get pretty attached to a fish… Joe-Joe was also my first fish and pet I’ve ever got. I’ve also got a hamster named Mochi (you can find videos of her on Youtube). God knows how I’ll feel when it’s her turn…
Sorry for your loss, but its always good to remember how Joe-Joe lived. Hopefully Mochi lives a very long time.
