So how to celebrate? Well, for starters, my Raquel Gothic figure has come back from e2046. What a great present! And my wife is not working today too! I’m going out for dinner tonight with family to a fancy restaurant where I can eat Kobe beef! A rare occasion! (no pun intended)

Update3: been watching the news all day, and reading blog entries, and twitter feeds about Michael Jackson, and all the lives he’s touched. Hard to believe that one man’s death has moved every single person on the face of the planet in one way or another. Truly legendary.
Many still troll about his alleged pedo-acts, and other controversial things, but more importantly was all the charitable work that he did, and the absolutely amazing music he brought to the world, and the deep meaningful humanitarian messages some of them held.
Incidentally, Lisa Marie Presley wrote about how MJ told her one time “I fear I will end up just like your father.” Elvis Presley died in 1977, just less than two months after I was born.
Definitely, this will be a day I’ll remember forever.

I don’t celebrate my bday as much as my family ‘celebrates’ it (via the standard cake or dinner out). Kinda stopped caring when I started feeling old cuz of it lol
Same happened to me this year. Dinner out with family, followed by cake.
This would be the first year in which I really was “meh” about running my own party.

Don’t really celebrate my birthday much since I pretty much live alone. I just get some congratulatory phonecalls that’s all, I’d be happy enough if I didn’t have to cap off my birthday with an instant noodle dinner ^^;

You’re right, surviving another year is cause for celebration. I think I’ll just gather some friends together this weekend or next to just have fun. Maybe some Rockband or something and some yummy KFC! ^^
The raspberries were very fresh. The rest of the cake was delicious chocolate mousse, with a wafer on the bottom, and a thin layer of chocolate cake in the middle.
I celebrate my birthday with cake and going out with family. My birthday party is with about 5-7 friends, and it’s either a month before my birthday, or a month after because that’s when people aren’t on vacation.
a whole month? wow! That’s really cool though. Hanging out with people who are important to you is very good, especially when it’s a close-knit group of friends and family. ^^

I spent my birthday in the campus bar, with an upper year friend. We took a study break and went out for a beer (since I reached legal drinking age on that day).

I don’t like celebrating my birthday, because it reminds me that I have no friends here ;_; ahahahaha all of them are in my home country, and I’m not exactly extroverted or social enough to go around making friends like crazy.
In all honesty I’m content if people just call me and congrats me. I don’t like parties that much, and people just remembering and calling is great enough for me ^^
Cake and all-you-can-eat korean barbecue are the only things that I want on b-day (besides gifts, lol); but I learnt something from the last one… I better start specifically asking for figurines or sth I really want, because if i don’t ask for anything I’ll just get weird things ^^U

Yakuri, I can’t say I know how you feel, since I’ve always lived in my home country, but I can say I understand, because my wife is from overseas. Even though she has my family here, it’s just not the same. And honestly, you don’t need a whole lot of friends. You really only need one or two really good friends whom you can share your feelings and moments with.
You’re right about the gift thing. I learned that lesson too, so that’s why I started a wishlist on amazon. I have gotten figures for Bday before, but they’re almost never the ones I wanted, mainly because I’ve already bought the ones I wanted. haha!

I agree that it’s not quite the same. I met some very cool people in college, but it’s not like my high school friends. With them we could meet up at whatever time days in a row and didn’t do much else (go to school, have the whole afternoon and weekends free), so it was easier to bond. Now in college, I (we) take care of the house, pay the bills, work and everyone has a different class schedule, so there’s not much time to chat (you need to fly from one class to another). Everyone just schedules some time for dinner or lunch and off we go, but I loved the spontaneity from high school.
Even so I don’t regret coming here, I like it a lot more ^^

I know what you mean in terms of the difference between high school friends and college friends. There’s a certain innocent bond that you just can’t get from anyone else. It’s fun to just bum around, but later in life, you’re actually expected to socialize! And you’ll have even less time to do it! You’ll experience an even further detachment with coworkers later in life. It becomes even more important to hang on to just a few close friends.

The cake was incredibly rich and sweet. I love chocolate, and that one was completely chocolate! It had a wafer bottom too, that even after a day in the fridge, is still crispy!
Michael Jackson had a pretty hard life, I think. His song “Childhood” really tugs at the heartstrings.
Sometimes, I go through events like my birthday or New Years alone, but instead of brooding, I like to treat myself instead. Life’s too short to brood, so just have fun!

btw, his website has some caching and time issues. I’ve never taken the time to peak at his code and don’t quote me on this I’m a software programmer not a webmaster, but at first glance I think that site is all made up with hacks based off a wordpress framework. Not that their is anyting wrong with WP. LOL, it takes 48Hour’s for stuff to totally disappear from his live pages… it just hides out for a while but can be viewed. 🙂

Heya nyoron! Being born on June 25th is the best. It’s right smack in the middle of the year. Half a year later, it’s Christmas, and another half a year, it’s birthday!
The Kobe beef was great. It was called Wagyu, but is essentially the same thing. Expensive though! $10/ ounce! More tender than the most tender of tenderloin, just the right amount of fat so that it tastes good but not fatty, and the seasoning was superb. I’m hungry now!!
