I’m sure most of you have come up against the problem of owning too many anime figures, that you’re running out of room. My own personal solution is to rotate them, and keep some of them in storage. This keeps things fresh. You may recall a previous post on my collection, so let’s see how things have changed since then.
Things are looking a bit crowded already!
All of my top-shelf 1:6 scale figures are now nowhere to be seen. No more Yuna, Ayane, or any of the other Final Fantasy figures. The Lineage II Mage has been moved to the top shelf, while some figures previously elsewhere have also been moved there. Black Rock Shooter quickly took a spot on the shelf. Gwendolyn is also gone (she’s been gone for a better part of half a year now), and so is Ignis.
My girl-band.
I can’t believe I have FOURTEEN of these little buggers now! And there’s still more to come!
Gothic Devil Girl still has her place on the same shelf. She fell off about 1 meter once and broke her finger. It was a bitch trying to get that glued back on. Surprisingly sturdy for a resin statue!
Now to the detolf shelf. This is one shelf below, the Asuka Motorcycle. She seems to have gotten a permanent place there… Miku World is Mine replaces the entire set of figures I had here (the wonky pose theme has been scattered).
Right below Miku is a new display theme – European weaponery. This used to be the Kosuke Fujishima themed shelf. While these three figures still remain from the previous collection, they won’t be for very long. Rize and Shall will be retired soon for other things. That little board thing is a postcard from a friend in Taiwan!
Shall is still as beautiful as ever.
While Saber Gift was moved from the desktop display, she looks wonderful behind glass. I still prefer this face more than the anime face. It has a uniqueness to it unlike any other figure, and matches the armor detail very well.
The bottom feeder shelf has changed a little bit. It’s no longer as crowded, as most of the Pia Carrot figures are now gone. One of them was sold, while the other two are put away in storage. They are for sale, if you’re interested. New to this is the Haruhi and Melon Pan Shana on the right. Melon Pan Shana was purchased from Riuva, but I’m having second thoughts of owning her. Anyone interested may also buy her from me.
I still love this Shana the most. She’s quite photogenic!
Lovely Sana was a birthday present from Shino. She’s still around, and will always be a part of my collection.
Now to the detolf on the right. This top shelf used to be the Oriental Weaponry theme. All the figures (except for Shall) have been disbanded and retired. I’ll bring them out of storage again someday. Now, it’s the Tony Taka themed shelf.
Her hat is magnetic! She’s the first figure I’ve gotten with a magnetic hat.
I actually like this Ryuna more than the Kotobukiya version. While that one has the signature Tony Taka style, this one has a sense of longing and elegance that makes her unique. Her eyes are also clear, adding much more depth.
This was acquired recently (as in 3 or 4 months ago) from someone on myfigurecollection.net. There were some hiccups in the transaction, but I’m glad that it arrived safely, and mint as described. This version is the definitive one, in my opinion.
You know me. I’m a sucker for light-elves. Especially cute ones like Elwing. Originally she wasn’t going to be a purchase for me, since I already owned an Elwing. But seeing her at Soul of Anime made me want to buy her.
I can’t say whether or not this would be the definitive Xecty. It looks really nice, but it looks too similar in armor style to the President Japan Elwing. Not that I mind. She looks damn hot. I might be open to selling her in the near future though.
The President Japan version of Elwing. She’s a bit larger than the other Kotobukiya counterparts. I like her clothing design and detail. It’s very nice. She was my first light-elf figure purchase. You may recall the photoshop piece I did a while back.
The Final Fantasy shelf below remains largely unchanged. The difference now is Yuffie has been added. Purchased half a year ago, from someone on NeoGaf, she costed me only $25+shipping. Hard to believe I got a cold-cast statue for the price of a cheap Play Arts figure. Yes, she’s authentic.
I never really thought about it until now, but Yuffie looks a lot like Kafuka Fuura from Zetsubou Sensei. Yes?
Military shelf below that remains largely unchanged. It’s just a bit more crowded now with the addition of Burst Angel Jo. She was originally in my “for shame!” shelf. More on that shelf in a bit.
The bottom feeder shelf on the right. Sad to see that Uesugi has been moved from desktop to here. Saber Lily showed her who’s boss!
Another one to join is this sexy Rei statue from Kotobukiya. I got her on impulse over a year ago because she’s just so sexy! Rack another point up for Rei vs Asuka! (pun intended). If anyone wants to buy her, she’s practically new (been in her sexy transparent box for over a year).
Unfortunately, this is my “for shame” shelf. This breaks many of the rules I have for figure displaying. It’s like this because well, this shelf is located in the storage room, where nobody can really see it. You could call this my “discards” but I prefer it to be the hidden shelf. These figures are the ones that I want to display and refuse to put them in their boxes, but not so much that they should take up space of other figures. I shift these around sometimes, (Jo was moved out of here) so it’s also a sorta “RAM box”. It really saddens me to see some of these great figures placed here.
You may not recognize this shelf, but it’s actually the right hand shelf in my Nendoroid Gamers photoshop. A close-up of that reveals figures moved to the bottom feeder shelf. Haruhi used to be in this shelf to complete the “Girls with Guitars” theme, but my wife didn’t appreciate Haruhi thrusting her vagina into full view. I tried to get a more decent angle, but it was impossible. Now this is a sorta “pink rocker” shelf, with the addition of Moka. Oh well. I’m sure something will come up.
Finally, the left hand side of the same shelf, this one also remains largely unchanged, just that I never featured it in a previous My Current Collection post. Positioning has though, and now Kureha is in the forefront. This would be considered my “Damn, tall and slender girls” theme. Honestly, Kureha’s proportions are completely off. Look at how long those legs are!!!
So completes another post on my collection. I decided to post this now because it’s been a good long time, and I’m about to rotate my collection again.
Wanna see more? Check out Asian Ed’s collection too!
You have really a nice collection. Raqel is beautiful (I want her so much, but sadly this version is sold out, only black version will made again). Asuka is an amazing figure too ^^ My boyfriend had her, and E2046 made a beautiful works ^^
Thanks Leonia! Raquel definitely does look nice. I’m very happy that I gave in and bought her. If I ever intend to sell her though, I’ll let you know. 🙂
e2046 definitely does have good people working under them. Gathering is just amazing at making these sculpts look so professionally done. It’s cool too because the prices are pretty reasonable – with today’s PVC figure costs… I just bought a Taiga figure, and it’s almost $100 after shipping!
Taiga figure ? What version ? Max Factory or Kotobukiya for this price I suppose ^^’ I have not ordered Gathering at E2046, for now, because I expect them Simao with the panda.. But Shad has several figure from them (Asuka Motobike, Souseiseki & Suiseiseki, Rei Ayanami Shunya version, Haruhi Gothic Dress, Asuka with her guitar, one Yuki Nagato, Haruhi Bunny with guitar) ^^ And yes, sculpture are beautiful ^^ I saw it with my first Gathering (but a second hand) Kirin ^^. But I would like the have the 2 ou 3 Raqel version (not the black) and the new Raqel from vispo (I saw picture on Vispo website : vispo.cc, but I don’t really like colors selected).
It’s the one that just came out not too long ago – the Miss Contest version by Wave.
http://www.hlj.com/product/WAVDT-49
Shadonia seems to collect a lot of Gathering statues! That’s pretty awesome!
It’s a bit of a shame that Raquel Gothic is a bit harder to find now (the version I have anyway). Vispo is definitely talented. The Noir et Blanc figures are also amazing, with his signature facial sculpt style.
woo you gots many figures lol
ha ha! I have MORE too! lol!
amazing collection you have and great displays 😀 lol the proportions may be off with the “Damn, tall and slender girls” theme but they still look so good :3
thanks rockleelotus! It’s really only Kureha’s proportions that are off. The others seem alright. I still love her anyway though. One of those must-get figures back then.
I finally figured out how to comment on your blog without looking like a total lurker. T-T You have a nice nendoroid army! I own about the same amount. It’s really impossible to stop collecting them. I love how L looks out of place amongst so many girls. Maybe he doesn’t like the concert Mio, Yui, and Nagi are throwing? 😉
I agree with your idea of switching out figures at a time. It looks a lot better than trying to fit your whole collection into a limited amount of space. I’ve seen people do that and it’s not pretty. I don’t even think it’s healthy for your figures to be jammed packed together.
Hi Ami! Glad that you’re here posting! ^_^
Yes, the nedoroid army is growing bigger. It will overwhelm me soon… I love them so much! They’re just so cute! Good Smile definitely found a working formula.
If I recall correctly, L is my first Nendoroid. He’s been posed like that with that expression since I got him. It’s the most hilarious, and really fits with his personality. Knowing L, he probably doesn’t care much for Mio, Yui, and Nagi’s racket over there! ^^
I’m slowly pushing the envelope with the amount of figures fitting in the shelves now. My previous “My Figure Collection” didn’t have nearly as many figures crammed into the shelves. I might have to tone it down a bit… Hopefully, this year, there won’t be TOO many new figure purchases! ^_^;
Got to shuffle what’s on the shelves time to time and keep some packed as well ^^;
Too much figure is more frustrating than anything else actually, when you don’t have the space to display them all hehe.
I see you have more nendoroid than what I thought, nice, very nice ^^
I still remember your post with your entire collection. HOLY CRAP that is an awesome shot. So I know how many figures you’ve got! ^^
You’re totally right, having not enough shelf space, and constantly having to re-arrange them, reluctantly putting some away and missing them, it is very frustrating. But then I’d rather do that than have all my figures crowded with not one standing out.
Heh, I’m pretty selective with which nendoroids I use in any of my shots. I have a few favorites, and the others are just kinda on display. ^^
Amazing collections! You’ve so many figures and many glass shelves huh. I’ve always been curious of how those figure collectors of several years deal with their collections. By roughly owning about 6 nendos, 10 pvc figures and a few more to come, I’m starting to worry about space. Probably, I should start getting shelves like yours.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Softz! I’ve only got two Detolf glass shelves, while the rest are the ikea Lack shelves. I’ve definitely got way too many figures! Trouble is, more are on the way! -_-;
Hope you’re able to figure out a good solution for your growing collection too! O_o
I’ve been meaning to put together something like this, especially with some of the most recent acquisitions. I’m actually running out of display room and my figma shelf is getting full. >.<
Maybe something for me to do this weekend…
Sweet, Asian Ed! Then I suppose this post is in good timing!
I’ve been “out of space” for a good two years now. I’ve actually had to sell some of my figures, while trying hard to keep my “cream of the crop”, but I’m backed against a wall now! It’s hurting more and more with each figure I decide to put up for sale. Don’t be like me, and be conservative on your purchases!
Oh, I think I’m far past being conservative. Going to Japan just exasperated the problem, as has adopting two Dollfies. They each take up two shelves in a Detolf!
Actually, the thing that worries me is what I’m going to do if I have to move. I have far too much stuff that can’t be easily replaced.
That’s definitely been a concern for me too. Before I moved to this new house, I already had a good amount of figures, but not nearly as much as I do now. It was a big pain to pack them. Before I left my previous job, I had a whole display case of figures there too. Also a pain to pack. But if I was moving to a much further place (like overseas) then it would be very expensive too. I’d probably just end up selling my whole collection somehow… 🙁
If I have a move, it’ll likely be across country. I still have the majority of the boxes for my figures, so packing them wouldn’t be an issue… they’d just take up a whole lot of space. 🙁
If I were to pack up and move, it would most likely be moving into a smaller place based on my current conditions and future plans. That would be a big problem – less shelf space AND less storage space. I would definitely have to scale down my collection.
Spectacularly well organized (and lit. I’ve always wanted to install proper lighting…). European weaponry, military, Final Fantasy, T2 shelves… It’s like a museum :D!
You could get railing and create an exhibit. Of course, charge for admittance fees >:3
Graar, why hasn’t anyone made a Houmei figure? She’s always overshadowed by the heroines/one of souma’s pals. You’d think she’s garnered enough attention to get a proper figure of her own.
Are you going to get that silly Black Rock Shooter sword version?
Thanks! I’ve found that properly lighting your figures for display really brings out the beauty in them, and makes them seem more… expensive. Especially when they’re behind glass. 😛
Houmei? You mean her? http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images/%5CAUTOIMAGES%5CBGL110211lg.jpg
She’s done by President Japan, if I recall. They made the Ryuna and Elwing figures I have pictured, with the beautifully unique clear-glass eyes. Unfortunately, that effect didn’t work too well with Blanc Neige. It ended up okay with Houmei though.
Definitely not getting that silly Black Rock Shooter sword version. I’d say it would be the perfect representation of zombie consumerism.
you’re missing Mao by konobukiya in ur Tony collection >.< go get it!!!
lol actually, I intentionally passed on Mao. I didn’t like any of the releases for her. One of them even looks like she’s surfing, or taking a crap. >_<
Omg…that is a very very nice collection man….
My nendoriod army is growing month by month lol 😀 Resistance is futile! I love your idea of rotating your figures on the shelves once in a while! I do that sometimes too ^^
thanks chubbybots! 🙂
How many nendoroids do you have now? It doesn’t seem like there is an end in sight! The only way to stop it is to stop subscribing to figure newsletters and checking out dannychoo.com! O_o
Cool to hear that I’m not the only one who rotates figures around! I guess it’s inevitable… ._.
Haha well I have 5 at the moment and looking to grow them once I have more funds!! There is this certain BRS nendo…cannan…argh…so many!!
Its hard to avoid figure and dannychoo’s posts….they are like daily staples of poisoning 😀
That’s very true, chubbybots, it totally is like staples of poisoning. A guilty pleasure indeed! So you’re getting the BRS nendo then, I take it? It’s quite cute, but I might pass on it. Not sure yet. ^_^
If you have 5, then I don’t see how your collection won’t continue to grow like mine over here. Be careful or you will be overwhelmed with cuteness! ^o^
Wow! What a nice and big collection! I wish I would have such a great collection as well one day.
lol thanks! But be careful what you wish for! 😀
Definitively room is a big problem :/ I don’t have that many figures for now but i never bought a dedicated shelve for them yet so they’re scattered all around my place.
In fact i’ve no idea where i’m gonna expose all my pre-orders lol
I don’t know if i could do rotation with my figures and not expose them all. Since i love them so much … would broke my heart to put one back in it’s box !
Anyway it’s an amazing collection you got there ^^ Apparently we share some tastes about figures 🙂
Katsura-chan! It definitely is a little heart-breaking to put figures away. I had to struggle with it for a while. It was interesting how I got there though – I first started by “cleaning up” the shelves – I removed figures from it that I felt “didn’t belong there” and kept only the best of the best on the shelf. I just took them off the shelf, I didn’t put them away or anything. And the figures that were on the shelf immediately looked better. After some arranging things around, I realized that it was actually for the best that I didn’t disrespectfully crowd them around, or scatter them in places they didn’t belong.
Now I’m more happy to put figures away, because then I can take other figures out of storage! It’s like opening new figures again! 😀
That’s an impressive collection you have there. My solution to running out of space is to buy more shelves 🙂
Thanks, Nopy! Yes, ideally that would be the perfect solution. I would love to do that, but I’ve got nowhere to put up shelves! ._.
I love to see the way fellow otakus organize their universe. It can give ideas.
You have a beautiful collection by the way, with many different styles.
Like you, i try to sort my figures by themes. I think it’s more enjoyable to look that way.
I laughed when i saw you named the shelve when you expose the figures you don’t want to leave in the box, “My shame”
True that you can see that as a “RAM Box”. LoooooL
Personally, if i don’t have all my figures in sight, i would be sad. So i try to put them all. No way to leave them in a box or hiding them in another room. Well of course, if i had no choice, i would be forced to do just like you.
Thanks Lylibellule! I don’t refer to myself as an otaku anymore, since the negative connotations associated with it are not who I am. I am definitely an anime fan, which I would be more proud of calling myself.
It’s good to hear that you sort your figures by themes too! I would very much like to see your display shelves sometime. 🙂
Someday, I will get enough shelf space for all my figures, so that I won’t have to have a RAM box. lol!
I think that if I didn’t have so many figures, then I wouldn’t have the problem of needing to rotate them. That’s why I’m trying to sell some of the ones I don’t like as much as I used to. It’s still a very tough thing to do though! O_O
I’m currently reorganizing my shelves right now. Once it’s over, i’ll do a small post about it 🙂
Sold our figures, even if it’s the one you don’t really like, it’s always very difficult. I know what this is ^^
Cool~
nice variety of collection.
Really luv your shelves lighting it gives a very nice ambient to the figures.
ooh and i nv notice any figma … you dun collect them?
thanks Jun!
If you look closely at image 25; there is a single Figma there – Saber. I intend to keep it that way. Check this post:
http://radiantdreamer.wordpress.com/2008/07/03/figma-saber-the-best-in-pvc-posability/
Oh.. thats well hidden.. ^^;
lovely saber post you got, likes the way you create an epic battle feeling at the first pic … now you makes me wanan get saber figma too >_<
*sigh* i’ve had to resort to boxing some of my older figures now because I really don’t have any room. Poor Ignis the white…
And I still have to make more room! I have no idea where I’m going to put my 1/4 KOS-MOS when i finish her. She’s too big for a detolf!
But I was pleasantly surprised to see a few Shinguji Sakura figures in there (tho I’m a maria fan myself). Not exactly easy to find these days
You got Ignis the White? I was so glad I got rid of the ugly bitch! I wonder if you’ve seen my rant on Dannychoo.com about crap figures. Ignis was the brunt of all my ranting for that post. 😛
It’s unfortunate that I’ve shelved all my Ignis figures now (both of them). I feel for you… and I don’t know what to tell you about KOS-MOS… I’ve got a FFVIII Rinoa+Siren statue, and it too doesn’t fit in a Detolf, so it sits on top of a shelf next to my fish. O_o
I like Sakura and Iris the most. The tall standing 1:6 Sakura is a garage kit! (I believe it’s clayz?) I’m so proud of myself for it, I was so terrible at painting! lol
Yeah, I got the white version as it was on the (relative) cheap. not a bad figure as such but not sure why everyone went gaga over it. Strangely, the costume itself was pretty well done, and the face was good, but the material they used to make it really let the whole thing down!
I also have an ignis the red. That was the limited edition monster in me taking over…
Is that sakura garage kit the one of her in her battle uniform? Looks like a good, neat job!
Yeah, when I got my Ignis the White, it was relatively cheaper than when it was first released. The complaints I had about her…
argh! http://radiantdreamer.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/it-seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time/
You got the red one too? Woah!
Yeah, the one in the battle uniform is the garage kit. It looks clean and good from this distance. I painted it by hand using brush. I couldn’t afford an airbrush, and wasn’t pro anyway. I didn’t even mix colors, except for the skin. Those are all stock Tamaya paint colors!
Of among the figures in the pictures, the first thing I want to say is that HG 1/144 Stargazer spotted! XD
How long did it take you to rearrange the figure display? I suppose it’s can be annoying how one can’t display everything in one go, but on the other hand switching things around can be like a refreshing feeling of some kind (I suppose).
Interesting that you have still managed to keep the theme thing when displaying your figures. I used to do that for my panzer collection (distinguishing their theatre of war i.e. which front line like Africa, Europe or Eastern Front etc), but ever since my mother told me that I *have* to move all of those on the window sill to my display shelf, they’re all crowded on 2 levels or so with no real distinguishing border lines…
Good eye! That’s literally the only Gundam I own now. (well, I do have an original Bandai Gundam RX-78 toy, but my mom broke it in a fit of rage when I was a kid).
It can take a couple of hours to re-arrange everything. The process of taking out the boxes, dusting shelves, and putting boxes away, can be time consuming. I usually don’t arrange my shelves all that much, maybe once every 3 or 4 months when I get bored. That’s probably why some figures have been in storage for 2 years+ now. 🙁
You can still display your figures in a theme. You just have to remove some of them from your display, and put them away. The more crowded things get, the less of a cohesive theme you’ll have.
I don’t have a problem with rotating yet. Still have just a bit more room for figures since I came back from Japan xD. Though I do have a box storage problem :P. My storage is at capacity and I have decided to take out all the plastics out of the boxes to flatten out the boxes and move the spare parts for everything into separate bags. This will greatly increase my storage space again for other things xD.
I actually had to do this with the figures I was bringing back from Japan as I couldn’t fit them all into my bags ^^;;.
I have 23 of those little buggers lol. They have their own dedicated shelf xD.
Oh dear, box storage is definitely another problem. I totally am against discarding the plastics and flattening the box, mainly for the reason that I need them to store my figures away. 🙁
It’s perfectly fine if you don’t have intention to sell your figures, and you have display space for your figures. When it comes to moving, just wrapping them in protective bubble-wrap is sufficient anyway.
You have 23 nendoroids?! NICE!!
you got an extremely nice collection. I haven’t really been collecting anything in the past, I’ve only got a few pretty poorly made figurines myself. I’m curious as to where do you find these figurines?
Hi! And welcome to my blog!
Thanks for the complement! If you want to start figure collecting, some good sites for resources are myfigurecollection as well as the various other blogs on my blogroll! The best place to buy import figures is from hobbysearch, HLJ, and e2046.
Just make sure you do your proper research on who you want to buy from. Hope that helps!
I had NO IDEA that Sakura figure existed! I own the Max Factory one myself. I LOVE the Kotobukiya figure of Cloud on the bike!!! It’s SUCH an awesome figure!
Love the collection, I own quite a few Tony Taka/Shining figures myself.
The Sakura figure is a resin kit. I bought her nearly 10 years ago! O_o
Cloud and Hardy Daytona was acquired 4 years ago when I bid on him on ebay while I was in Singapore. I had been on the fence about him for a while, until I saw how much the Advent Children Play Arts Cloud and Fenrir were going for. It justified purchasing this amazing polystone statue. 🙂
I think I’m going to slow down on the Tony Taka/Shining figures, though I’m probably gonna get Army uniform Xecty. lol
I slowed down (well cut back on what I owned even) on how many Tony Taka/Shining figures I own. Kotobukiya just kept pumping them out and I was really running out of space. But I went for Army (Koto) Xecty as well.
I preordered Army Xecty as well! I finally saw her available for preorder in diamond comics, but the import price is higher than me preordering from HLJ or somewhere! This is unusual since diamond comics has a partnership with Kotobukiya to release Koto figures in North America for cheaper.
Great collection.
but jealous with all those nendos D:
lol! A couple more were added to the collection since this photo… and there are still more nendoroids comin’! It’s like that stupid show 18 kids and counting!
I like how you have themes, it makes your displays look organized and neat!… Wish I could do that with mine, but unfortunately I have limited space, and only one Detolf to display… Plus I don’t have THAT many figures. The closest I have to something organized is my prized Yoko collection, which I put on the top shelf. Next one down seems to be my “musical” figures, though it may quickly become a K-On shelf… then third one is basically whatever doesn’t fit in the first two “categories”, then lastly is the bottom feeder shelf where I put whatever… like a Boota plushie (originally he was with Yokos, to complement, but then it got too crowded).
Gotta get another Detolf, and possibly a bookshelf!… T__T
Thanks, IK! Limited space doesn’t limit one’s creativity in designing common themes. Even separating the left side and right side of your shelf can work. You can even do color coordination, which my wife seems to like to do. >_>
Well, I don’t know how many figures you have, but now it’s +2 to your collection. :3 Hope you enjoy them!
I think that one should own at least two detolf shelves. A pairing always looks better. Even if you don’t have that many figures, splitting them among two shelves looks great! Also lighting too! Makes it look more expensive!
Yes, I very much want 1 more Detolf, I have room to set up one next to it! Also need a bookshelf, which should allow me to put more stuff up, when they don’t fit into Detolf.
I’ll be very happy to be able to get another one and split up some of the shelves, as they are getting rather crowded. Plus I was thinking about getting stair displays and maybe make one of the shelves a nendoroid/puchi nendo display! (They keep falling off my desk…)
Took home Miku to set up new Asuka Goth Loli at work!… Will bring Rei Goth Loli to accompany her soon. Thanks Radiant, for the new figures! XD
It’s always good to have more detolf shelves! Figures look so much more “expensive” when they’re behind glass, I always say. Though when things get too crowded, it doesn’t look as nice anymore…
The best place to get stair-like displays is at Daiso in Richmond. In the stationery section, they have these clear plastic pencil trays. That’s what I’m using for my displays!
I’m still a little paranoid on where you’re displaying Asuka, but if you’ve given me the assurance that she’ll be okay, I suppose there isn’t much I can do about it other than to trust you. 🙂
