Last week, my order for the Gothic Devil Girl from hobbyfan arrived. I would have to say that I’m very impressed with Sparkle’s work. The paint is excellent, with nary a single mistake with their paint lines. Very accurate, and very detailed, with no bleeds, no stray paint, no rough surfaces. It came packed in a nice labeled box in a very well protected cut foam.
Recently, I haven’t had much time, so I was only able to take a small number of photos of her. No full body shot yet, but I’m thinking that if things go smoothly, I’ll be adding more photos to this post as I go along.
I tried experimenting with HDR again, but it doesn’t seem like I’ve gotten anywhere with it. Most of the photos I do tend to have this look after photoshop touch-ups, but the HDR ones tend to look less grainy because of the higher spectrum range. Unfortunately, it means needing to use a tripod, and limits the photos I can take.
Out of all the HDR photos I took, I would say compositionally, this one looks the best vertically. Though it’s not as well colored as #2. The second shot has good composition for a desktop wallpaper, which it currently is for my desktop at the moment.
In this week I may get an opportunity to do some more close up shots of her. In the meantime, don’t forget that my gallery has other works too https://www.radiantdreamer.net. Stay tuned!
Very nice looking figure, never seen this one though and have no idea where she comes from.
I haven’t tried a real HDR shot in quite some time, but I’ve been reading that people tend to shoot at least 5 or 7 pictures in raw with different exposures then merge them all. Perhaps on my next photo shoot I’ll try some HDR but that means I’ll have to take out my tripod and it’s boring 😛
A friend of mine wasnt as pleased as you, since, despite the very-well-protected pakage, his figure suffered a lot (wings, hair, fingers broken…). Well, he bought her from e2046, but I guess both webstores are quite similar.
A-ny-way. Looking forward more pictures! She looks beautiful. It has been a while since I last tried HDR things, but I am not very fond of the result. I guess it makes awesome pictures but only with very specific settings, and donot fit any situation.
@ Belela-san : I don’t think she’s from any sort of series, though the sculptor/artist was also responsible for the naked Angel (http://www.estarland.com/images/products/68/25768/45064.jpg)
Which didn’t come out in PVC form until almost 6 years later. The PVC version of the Gothic Devil Girl was announced, and featured in Replicant, as well as shown at Wonderfest, but I have never seen it.
My HDR shots are composed of 3 photos only, as my point-and-shoot camera autobrackets only that amount. 🙁
Regardless, I still don’t really know how to make a nice HDR image after that.
@ lu-k : Actually, the ring finger on her left hand had broken off. Fortunately, she was also in a plastic bag, so her finger was recovered, and glued on. I think that the hair might have crushed the finger to snap off. But that’s it. I read hobbyfan reviews that they package their stuff very carefully.
Sorry to hear that your friend’s suffered immense damage. That worries me, since I have two orders coming from e2046 very soon. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw.
It’s a great day today, so I might get a chance to set up some shots.
I hear she was actually a original creation though I can’t remember who made her at the moment. Glad to see that it arrived but sad to hear that it was damaged and the one that lu-k’s friend received as well. Great looking pics, especially the last one thats super huge lol, like I’m actually looking at her if she was right in front of me.
nice looking figure 😀
IMO, HDR won’t be that noticable for this kind of indoor photography ^^
one more thing, the thumbnail has plenty of jaggies in my browser (firefox 2).
Nice that she’s quality enough to satisfy your standards :p Always good to know that shops such as HobbyFan can be trusted to do a great job on the finishing as well as the packing. Especially the packing I guess since these figures aren’t exactly cheap, and aren’t the most shock resistant either.
The fingers always seem to be the first to go as well, at least for me. Had a resin with the finger broken off too upon receipt, wasn’t wrapped up in plastic like yours, but managed to find it somewhere in the package and do a piss-poor job of gluing it back ^^;
Do something about those jaggies man!! :p
I don’t understand why Firefox can’t simply fix this anti-aliasing issue. The only other way I see me solving this problem is linking smaller images in here, which is something I’m too lazy to do, unless I simply don’t have large images, which would save me A LOT of effort.
I’m lucky that the finger repair was fairly minimal, though it did take a lot of effort. I can still see the crack in the finger, but fortunately, it’s not super noticable. I’ll apply some paint to it when I have time.
what is it manga ? i like it it very very cute
But did you realize that this is a bootleg figure, and you are supporting the industries that are making and selling Fake figurines.
