I never thought that this would ever happen to me, but it looks like I’m overloaded. I suppose everyone in their blogging life will do this eventually. My new Super Secret Project is underway, but I think I’m behind in it. If you’ve been paying attention to some specific game forums, you may already have an idea what this project is. Put 2 and 2 together! π
Mice Heist is pretty much done now, but we’ve been looking for a marketing team to help us push our game. It’s gonna cost us quite a bit of money (I’m talking two year’s worth of anime figures based on my current buying rate)
Not much has happened this week, since nowadays I spend 90% of my time inside my house. I’ve only opened the door twice, and that’s to pick up mail from the mail lady. I’ve been ordering so many figures and stuff that she knows me now. “Another scale model?”
Actually, three times this week. One of them was a box of BBQ grills from my warranty. They sent me a whole new set for free! The cost of shipping was probably over $50! I had no idea what it was and it caught me by surprise. Even the mail lady was like “You’ve forgotten what you’ve ordered haven’t you!”
Indeed I had, since I didn’t recall ordering any figures THAT heavy. I told her what it was when she came by with another package the following day.
The other two packages that arrived were from amiami and hlj; Xecty Military Version and Tsugumi Nendoroid respectively.
At that point, I became overwhelmed with the feeling that I have too many figures. I began snapping pictures of my collection for a future blog post, but decided that blog post might come sooner than expected. The reason being is this:
These are A LOT of boxes, and this is maybe just 1/3 or less of the figures I own. I’ve blurred them intentionally for the time being. But it’s fun to guess what things are, right? π Just know that these could be yours.
On and off these past couple of weeks, I’ve been writing a particular blog post. It probably won’t see the light of day until maybe after this month, but it is coming along well. A quick excerpt from it:
Some people like to hit as many blogs as possible, add them to their RSS readers, skim through those blogs and leave generalized one-line comments. Their purpose is to generate awareness and readership to their own blog. This tactic generally works. However, it’s not really appreciated…
I apologize if it sounds controversial; it’s really taken out of context. If you can figure out what this statement means, then expect something that may help you in the future.
I haven’t played very much video games this week either, but have put in a few more hours into Resonance of Fate.
L enjoying a good brew on his break.
It took some time, but I’ve managed to get to 20-3 in the Arena, and started on the infinite experience points exploit. The Golden Gem monster in there regenerates scratch damage rapidly and does little to no damage to you, which makes it possible to grind your machine-gun levels like crazy. After hooking up Double EXP and Double Terminal Effects to the arena, Leanne went from machine-gun lvl24 to lvl41 in 15 minutes flat. She’s now level 70 overall. Since it’s a one-time only battle, after I’m done, I just escape rather than kill the Gold Gem.
So, now that I’m busy as heck, I’m probably not going to post anything the following week. Maybe even the week after. It kinda sucks that I can’t blog next week, but well being busy means I’m making some money, and that’s always a good thing.
Ahhhhh lucky you, I have to wait for 2nd batch for my Tsumugi. T__T
Xecty figure is also kinda nice, I was contemplating getting her… Maybe I can start expanding on an elf set? XD
It’s good that you’re busy, but make sure you take a bit of time to do the things you enjoy each day, so that you don’t totally burn out from the stress of it all.
Well, better late than never I suppose. I have to wait for second run of Azunyan.
My Elf set has gotten quite big now. In total own 5 elves now!
Definitely will go out and maybe have some Kitty McNuggets! :3
I know the feeling of being overwhelmed. I recently got way more figures than I could keep up with because of tax returns and some days it’s just too much to try and take them out one at a time for reviewing, on top of that I’ve fallen so far behind with reading other people’s blogs and actually leaving constructive comments that often I just read them quickly and don’t leave one at all. On top of blogging we all have personal lives (some busier than others of course), but it’s always best to just go at your own pace instead of forcing anything ^^
Dang! I love getting tax returns! Money in the pocket! But easy come easy go I suppose! It definitely saddens me when a large percentage of my figures are just stored in boxes and not on display… I’m always hoping that one day, I’ll have enough space to display all of them, but with my continued buying pattern, it’s only going to get worse. π
I’ve been trying hard to keep up with people’s blogs. I figure that it really doesn’t take that long to comment on a blog, since I’m already there reading it anyway. But yeah, it can be tough sometimes.
I’m starting to see a pattern emerge with peoples’ blogging patterns, and their visiting rates. I’ll probably talk more on that on a future date.
You’re right about the pacing. I think that a lot of people take blogging too seriously, and it ends up ruining their enjoyment.
Ah cmon gimme gimme your figure after midnight, won’t somebody help me chase these figures away.
Give it to me, or the bunny dies XD
? lol R U drnuk?
What? Money is a good thing? Nawww.
Really though, it’s much wiser to make some money and whatnot in real life instead of fretting over blogging. o/
Unless you can make money WITH your blog! $_$
…did someone say Danny Choo?! =D?
All I wanna do is boom boom boom, and a cha-ching! and take your money!
Too busy with work and all means not enough time to go through everyone’s blogs and leave detailed comments. There’s too many times I think to myself “I have something to say on this, but I’m too busy to write it now, I’ll do it later…” and then forget to. Oh well, work is more important, blogging is just secondary ^^
I’ve found a way to deal with balancing between busy-time and blogging time. I just have to make little sacrifices here and there. Like a little less gaming time, or when I’m waiting for something for 15 minutes.
It actually doesn’t take as long as I thought. But if I sit down and try to go through everyones’ blogs all at once, then yeah, that takes a very long time, and is draining.
I try not to do the “I’ll comment later” because like you, I tend to forget quickly and easily. It’s actually more efficient to read once, comment once. Rather than read once, re-read later, and then comment.
I’ve tried to put blogging secondary, but have found it difficult to do. Probably because I like to type a lot. π
But yeah. I have to draw the line somewhere, and at this point, it’s a good idea to take a small break.
Indeed, we all need to make little sacrifices here and there. I’ve been limiting myself to a few hours a day for blogs, so I can set aside some time to play games. It’s all about balance XD
Hrm. Too many figures? Makes me wonder how many you own by now. o.o
You know, I’m a bit envious that you feel overloaded because you are doing something productive… I on the other hand… am not blogging much just because I’m lazy OTL
IMO balance is the key. I mean, all of us would agree that we need to earn money, but if we live just to work, I don’t think it’s worth it at all π Hope to see more entries from you when you get the time! I read some of your older entries and I liked them a lot ^^
Definitely way too many figures. I had thought about actually taking out ALL of my figure boxes and stacking them up for a photo just to see exactly how overwhelming it would be, but I decided against it. The reality would probably drive me over the edge (who knows what I’ll do then!)
Don’t Say Lazy! (sorry, I couldn’t help myself) It’s important to have things to do, but it’s also just as important not to have things to do… I don’t wanna explain the philosophical reasoning behind that, but trust me. π
Actually, you explain it well enough already! π
Thanks for reading the older entries. I’ll definitely be posting more interesting stuff in the future. (I’m obligated to now, since I’ve posted all those random pix hinting at future posts!)
I have to agree with the excerpt, the old “give a comment leave a comment” idea usually results in the the same way, one liners backwards and forwards
Despite that blurred picture it still looks really exciting xD Ive never had such a stash! Maybe some day though…
Haha your mail lady is so nice too! Ours knocks, waits for two seconds then moves on, just a couple of days ago i ending up jamming the key half way into the door and she left before i could open it D:
I’m glad you see the same thing Taketombo! I noticed that you started off commenting on my blog with one liners, but have quickly changed to full length comments after I started visiting your blog too. I apologize if I haven’t exactly been posting full of insight for the time being though. It’s more just for me to acknowledge to you that “yes, I am reading and enjoying your blog!” π
I’m excited to reveal to you what the photo consists of! XD
I can’t believe that your mail lady is like that! Does that mean she has to come back again to re-deliver? That’s just a waste of her time really. Not to mention that since she didn’t drop it off, it’s a wasted trip, and she has to carry the parcel away too!
Haha no worries, i think a lot of people will commend you for addressing it as im sure it effects a lot of people
I cant wait to see what that picture holds! XD
And yeah she does basically or most of the time, she takes it back to our local post office and then i have to pick it up, all for the sake fo a couple of minutes to actually let me OPEN the door! Unforgivable! >:
Ya, we’ve all been there. Lot’s of things take priority over blogging as it is something on our to do list but with so much before it then you tend to overload. Tomoyo and I overloaded this past weekend and only now recover to post on the blog lol. Other things came up that had to be taken care of before it. I’m interested as to what you’re working on and can only imagine what it is lol. My mailman leaves packages on my washer that’s outside and hidden from view from the street lol. Though if it’s someone new and no one is around to receive it I have to pick it up from the local post office but luckily it’s only a few minutes drive away.
I’ve noticed that things sort of tapered off suddenly with you and Tomoyo’s blog posts. Glad to hear that you guys are picking up again. π
It’s been pretty busy with other things going on around the house too. A few weeks ago, I turned the storage room into our new den, and the old den has been turned into a guest bedroom. Now all our rooms are fully functional. My wife wants to paint the den now too, and I think it’s a good idea. Just maybe not now when I’m busy with other things… π
Your washer is outside? I’ve seen that only a few times before, but I suppose it’s more common than I think. My mail lady never leaves things at the house. If I’m not there to open the door, she leaves an ID tag in my mail box, and I have to go to the post office to pick up the package. I’d rather that than risk someone coming by and stealing my mail though. π
I know the feeling of being overloaded, having to actively prioritise what you do and don’t have time for. In a lot of ways though, it’s nice to be kept busy.
I also agree with your quote regarding comments. I’ve found that a lot of the blogs that seem to be very popular actually have the least actively engaged communities. Sure, they have hundreds of comments, but most of them may as well just read “this is only here so people will click the link to my blog”. I don’t get too many comments on my blog, but the ones I do get are mostly (but not always) from people who have actually read and responded to the posts, which is preferable to a mountain of thoughtless comments to me.
Pretty sure there’s a GSC Canaan in that pixelated pile of figures. Other than that, I’m clueless!
I remember a few blogs myself where the number of comments were astronomical, and many of them were as shallow as the comments that I see on Danny Choo.
The number of comments I get on my own blog are right now “manageable”, so I’m able to have actual conversations with people here. I recall Danny had said that he used to enjoy and engage in this sort of activity when his blog wasn’t so hugely popular. It seems to me that he kind of misses those days, but has to move on.
I agree with you. Fewer quality comments mean a lot more than many empty comments.
Heh… you’re wrong about Canaan! I don’t own one! XD
Maybe I made it a little TOO blurry to guess… I should revise that a little.
Only a “few” more hours? It sounds like you’re so much further in RoF than I am, my characters are still around level 13. I’ve wanted to play more, but I got hit with a ton of work when the game came out π
Well… I have been playing it since it was released, so it actually has been a very long time.
The levels start accelerating when you juggle your weapons around (each level up in a weapon category levels up the character). And it starts leveling up even faster when you hook up XP multiplier terminals and do the Gold Gem trick I was mentioning.
I’m only on the end of Chapter 7 right now…
I think I may have an idea to what your super secret project is now π But I tend to be wrong, so I’ll wait till you reveal it.
Anyway, I wish you luck for the investment on your Mice Heist game, considering I don’t have an iphone I’ll do what I did last time, which was to convince my other friends to buy it! π
You think you know what my project is? π
Well, you could be right. I’ll let you tell me whether you’re right or wrong when I reveal it. It won’t be too long from now. ^^;
Thanks very much for your support, lostty!
Oh man, a break, that’s what I need. This past week has been hectic, and I know for a fact that the next week will be too. It’s times like this where I want to go to sleep for a day and not think about anything else.
I’m uncomfortable with staff of any sort recognizing me – I suppose I like that anonymity in transactions. As for mail though, only my landlord has access to the main door, and I wouldn’t trust him to get to it for his life. I always end up walking all the way to the post office to pick something up.
Controversial indeed! But I assume that means your post is about something along the lines of how that shouldn’t be frowned upon as much as it is?
I know what you mean – sometimes there’s so much work that it’s overwhelming, and all you want to do is escape from it. It gets depressing, because you can’t escape by playing games (cuz of guilt) so you just knock yourself out. π
Normally, I wouldn’t announce a temporary hiatus, especially if it’s only for a couple of weeks, but I think I’m now more responsible to my readers, so I feel like I owe it to them, not just as readers, but as friends too.
I don’t really understand what the issue is with not wanting any staff to recognize you – is it the Hair Stylist Syndrome where you’ll feel guilty if you don’t go back to the same stylist, or worse you go back to the same place but get a different stylist?
No comment about your landlord. But at least you’re assured your items will be at the post office and not in the hands of someone else. π
Actually, it should be frowned upon, in my opinion. Comments like that don’t really help anybody. It’s not constructive, there really isn’t a way to respond to it without being shallow either “Thanks for commenting!” yay. π
But you’re guess is wrong. It’s not going to be an opinion-post or rant-post. I just hope that I’m actually worthy enough to write about what I’m planning to write! π
OMG! The cat is getting more and more curious over that blurred photo. π
Care to take some guesses on what’s in the blurred photo? π
I hope you eat well while staying indoors but since you you opened the door only three times (once for BBQ and twice for figures), I quickly assume that you have been eating instant noodles all week. =_=
ha ha no, haven’t eaten instant noodles. I’m fortunate that I do have a wife to take care of me. ^_^
And there is food in the house. I am capable of cooking too. :3
Oh, that is a relief!
Now you have just given me another reason to find a partner (smiling devilishly)
I thought you’ve ALREADY overloaded yourself a long time ago! (laughs)
That is quite a lot of boxes. You thinking of selling some again? Since I don’t own many figures I definitely can’t recognise them from there orz Sometimes I do worry what I should do when I get overloaded with various stuff in my room. Just because I got myself a Billy shelf does not mean I can really get a lot more stuff… Unless I go buy another shelf… orz
Being overloaded with work can be a pain too – even if you enjoy what you’re doing but you feel overloaded you can tire out easily. I am a betatester in a Battlefield 1942 mod called Battlegroup42, and recently got access into developer’s forum. Only then have I realised how much work there is behind the scenes, and that as the team is lacking manpower having to cope with life as well as contributing to the mod can be tiring especially when it’s an ongoing thing (it’s still surprising to many that we’re still actively developing a mod of a 2002 PC game). Motivation is a really big thing here, and not surprisingly people take long breaks or even disappear off.
As for that quote up there, I am sure I have seen that written elsewhere. It’s kinda true to some extent, that people comment for the sake of commenting. Sometimes I do wonder how to reply a very simple one line comment.
On the other hand, I fall in the bad example of “I’ll comment later” problem. That made me have a heap of posts to catch up again on later on. In the last post is the mysterious hand + plate was Revoltech Professor Layton?
Ho ho, figure overload. The worst part of figure collecting is the box collection you end up with. I have over 60 figures (and that’s too much!). The amount of space all those boxes took up was beyond ridiculous. It was literally a mountain of cardboard and protective plastic! Eventually I said “Enough is enough” and did was most hardcore collectors wouldn’t dream of: I took a pair of scissors and manually destroyed all of the boxes. (It took hours)
As for comments…
Now that I’m steering EBW away from figure nonsense (since I’m running out of figures to review and don’t have money for too many new ones) my stats have taken a huge hit. It’s weird…I didn’t update for months but my pageviews were consistent. Then I start updating with non-figure content and they tank. Ah, fickle readers. But EBW was never really meant to be a figure blog. I literally just did it for the lulz. Hopefully once I release the Swanky Penguin game the readership will rise up again. But I’d never want to be Danny Choo-levels of popular since…well…you pointed it out. Can’t really connect with the fanbase when 60% of the commenters are just posting for no good reason.
Also, I’d recognize that Belldandy figure in your photo anywhere. *has the same one*
Im glad, in a way im broke….
or else ill be buying to much =/
thats a big collection D: but also π
I totally know what you mean! I suppose instead of wishing I’m broke, I wish I had better self control! π
Ya being super busy is tough…
[end of one line super generic comment] π
OK! From the image of blurred loot you posted I’d bet money I see Nadia, Feena, Revy (New Line), Rei 1.0 (Kotobukiya), Spinning Belldandy (Kotobukiya), and Death Sensei (Alter)…if I didn’t list the manufacturer it’s because I forgot and don’t feel like looking it up. I definitely spy a Revoltech, and I’m going to guess it’s Rei because I think I see a bit of blue at the head. I also THINK I see a nendoroid and since the hair looks purple I’ll guess Zange-chan. And I don’t know why but even though I can barely see anything I feel like that figure on the bottom left is Yuna from X-2.
LOL I got really excited for this picture game.
Also my mail lady went up to my friends once and told them that I get a lot of packages. I’m wondering if she can guess what my hobby is by now. I’m sure I get more packages from Japan than the average individual on her dailey route. PLUS she saw my anime magazines.
lol! Yay! No one-liner! <3
You're VERY good at spotting figures! You're bang-on with most of them! Very good guesses! I'm impressed and surprised that you managed to figure out so much just from pixels! You are however, half-right about the Nendoroid one. She is a nendoroid, but it's not Zange-chan. And you're right about Yuna too!
Your mail lady has probably figured out what your hobby is. I'm sure mine has too. π It's cool though, she's always happy to see me. :3
Being right about Yuna made my night π
Sweet! Do you have a Yuna statue? π
I do π she was one of my first few figures. I wasn’t a fan of the game FFX-2 that much, but I thought Yuna looked awesome at least.
That Yuna does look awesome! π I was surprised that she was selling for such a low price. Especially since she’s made out of such solid PVC!
I should really stop buying so much >_< I don't know how big our collection is, but if we put ours together, I'm sure we can fill one of those storage rental space easily. My postal delivery person is leaving packages inside my gate now. That's good of them, but I wouldn't have minded picking it up at the post office. I'm really running out of space…
"Some people like to hit as many blogs as possible, add them to their RSS readers, skim through those blogs and leave generalized one-line comments. Their purpose is to generate awareness and readership to their own blog. This tactic generally works. However, itβs not really appreciatedβ¦"
I tend to comment on some blogs but because I like to give my opinion on it, even if it is just once on their blog. I've been leaving lots of internet footprints, but it's not really on purpose, I just happened to like typing stuff up. But of course I could easily comment this out of context without reading the whole thing. To be continued when you post it.
You’re probably right. I think we may be able to set up a display museum or something and charge for admission. We don’t seem to have very many duplicates either so that would be quite the collection indeed!
I’m lucky that my mail lady rings my doorbell all the time.
It’s definitely taken out of context, and sounds more controversial than it is. At the same time, I’m tempted to not talk about it either, since there are people that do intentionally take things out of context or look at it in a different context, even though you make it clear. I mean, I admit that even I leave one-line comments here and there too.
to : radiant
hello bro, hmm… i see i look your hitomi reticulum pvc
do you have it ????
its a rare one i looked forward for this figure but i’ve never get one.
i’m very jealous to your room — so full of pvc figure
my collection amount isn’t have a bulk like you
Sorry, you’re mistaken. No Hitomi. You may be confusing it with Ayane, since the image is rather blurry. ^^
Stay tuned though, as these figures are all coming up for sale later!
Stress..
I wonder if there’s a way to slow down our life..:(
