To celebrate my completion of Metal Gear Solid 4, I decided to make a photoshop image of Revy in the Metal Gear world. I’ve kind of always had this impression that Revy hung out a lot in dusty South American, and Middle Eastern regions for some odd reason. I’ve never seen the anime so I wouldn’t know. It might be her striking resemblance to a certain Ms. Croft.
A whole 25 photos and a review after the jump!
Most people don’t know it, but yes, I do have this version of Revy as well as the polystone version. I preordered her the moment I caught wind of a release. I’m not sure why, but there was definitely something alluringly awesome about this figure, even though I knew nothing about it (I still know nothing about it). It’s the pose. It’s so dynamic, and the limited character design has excellent and sharp detail where it is needed.
I had full intention of this figure being a “keeper”, but recently, demand for her has skyrocketed. The last ebay auction I saw of her, she sold for over $230! That’s a lot of money for a piece of plastic.
I can’t get enough of the pose. This is a character that looks good in ALL sorts of angles.
The hair, while simple, and does show seamline flaws, is very well sculpted, and very fluid looking.
I may not know much about Revy, but I can tell that she’s badass. She’s like a combination of Lara Croft and Solid Snake! The way she’s smirking as she’s carrying that cigarette really shows attitude.
The wrinkles on her tanktop have some realism to it. You can tell that those girls are definitely in motion. She’s got a nice midriff and bellybutton too. Even the denim shorts have silver buttons. Very nice touch.
The tattoo on her back is clean and very well made. The leather straps also have good detail.
It’s like she’s dancing! Check out that belt!
Boots are all laced, but never tied up. It seems like a common design element for Revy, as the polystone version features the same thing. The detail on the boots are absolutely astonishing. You can see how the leather flaps fold in and remains matte while the toe of the boot is somewhat shiny. The laces even have that little hard tip!
The other boot. No need to say more. Just look at those folds and creases!
The guns are definitely smaller than the 1/6 scale counterpart, but does not seem to lack any detail at all. They are a little flatter for some reason, but are still very well done.
They even fit in the holsters!
A clearly embossed “BLACK LAGOON” logo is emblazoned across the somewhat reflective black base. Subtle yet prominent, it doesn’t distract from the main attraction of the figure itself.
What I really like about this figure is the attention to muscle tone and anatomy. I would say she’s pretty anatomically correct. You can see from the legs here that the muscle tone is sculpted in with high attention to detail. The tension points are pretty strong, especially in the back of the thigh.
Even the elbow and arm have great muscle tone detail in it! I’m pretty impressed. I can see why this figure is in such demand now!
Absolute win. When I saw the auctions on ebay, I couldn’t really understand what the big deal was about this figure. But after taking more pictures of her from all sorts of angles, I can see why this figure is special. She wasn’t on my to sell list, but after seeing the price, she popped on there, but after taking all these pictures, I’m really hesitant now. Enjoy the rest of the photos!
From the looks of it, I can make a lot more cool photoshop photos of her. At the beginning of this shoot, I had intention to do a review of her and then sell her. I’m not sure I want to let her go anymore. The last three photos had me going on the fence whether I should sell or not. But if I do, I’ll post a link here to my ebay auction. How much would you be willing to pay for this spectacular?
Here’s the original photo I used for the photoshop image.
The original shot is WAY more saturated than the final result ended up being. I also had to tape a tissue to the halogen lamp to diffuse the lighting a little, as it was way too harsh. I even had to up the saturation of the background image. I really dislike how modern games are so bland looking nowadays.
Until next time!

Edit: Well, Danny’s review on Queen’s Gate Alice convinced me to buy, so Revy defaults to sell. Auction will happen tonight.
Edit3: Wow, she was sold in less than 12 hours. That’s pretty high demand.
Well, I guess this is good-bye… honestly, when I was tossing the packing foam into the box, I felt like I was burying the dead. Mint condition man!! MINT CONDITION!!! Dude, you’d BETTER enjoy this figure! 🙂
I’ve never watched Black Lagoon so I don’t know much about Revy either, but from what I’ve heard she’s crazy, she kills, and swears a lot. The figurine does look nice and has lots of detail. I can’t imagine myself spending so much on a figurine though. Either it’s the fact I don’t want to spend so much when I don’t know Revy’s character or that it’s not Konata from Lucky Star.
Great job on the photoshop. I love the angle of the shot in the photoshop the unbalanced angle is always great to show some chaos and uncertainty. I don’t know if it was done purposely to make Revy stand out, but since the colors of the background are so muted, maybe you could have made Revy’s colors more dulled down to fit the picture better. Her body language makes me think that she’s quickly turning around so maybe some dust coming up from the ground. Right now I think the shadow is kinda too clean for the war-torn dusty environment.
I agree, this Revy figure takes good pictures from any angle.
You’re selling this great figure? Shame on you. We can see how much the figure details from Alter have evolved from one year to another, this figure was great last year but this year the details have increased a lot.
The photo manipulation is great, I don’t recall if I’ve asked this already or if you have already done it. I think we’d like to see a tutorial in how to make this manipulations, I can make some but somehow I can’t control the light and the colors the way I wanted
wow! great photoshop work and great pics as well. ^^
I like the photoshopped image but wouldn’t some greenish “Photo Filter” on Revy helps her blend into the background better?
nice job for the photoshop image 🙂 nice shading.
good figurine, too bad that you intend to sell her 🙁
@kin : I personally would only be able to justify spending exuberant amounts of money on a discontinued figure if I really really like it a lot. There are people out there who are willing to pay for it. We’re just not those kinds of people.
Thanks! It took a bit of searching to find just the right image I wanted to use – lots of ign and google image searching… it was definitely intentional to have more color to Revy and make her pop from the background. In a way, it’s also a protest to how muted and desaturated current generation game palettes are. I had already toned down the saturation on Revy, and upped the saturation on the background too!
I thought about dust as well, but I got lazy.
@Belela-San : I’m very impressed with newer Alter figures. Unfortunately, not many have interested me enough quite yet. I’ve had to up my standards too, as a space crisis is imminent.
I’ve got tutorials on my blog here http://radiantdreamer.wordpress.com/category/tutorials/
Going into detail on proper lighting is difficult… it really just takes practice and observation. I know it sounds like a lazy response, but it’s true. 🙁
@Jaydead : Thanks! Keep checking back for more great stuff! 😀
@Divine-Fang : It was intentional to color her such to make her stand out. I wasn’t aiming for realism for this one at all. I am using a CG background after all. 🙂
@Ron : Thanks! Always good to hear from you. If you’re interested, do buy it from me. I need funds for Queen’s Gate Alice…
Awesome shots! I fell in love with the first picture. (give us hi-res for wallpaper! XD) The harsh lighting you used above her head is a nice touch. How many lights did you use on that particular shot? 🙂
$230? Wow. I have no words.
@snipershibito : Thanks! I actually only used a single light source above her head. It’s actually the halogen desk lamp that sits beside my computer. I’ll upload the original image.
I managed to sell mine for $200.
The photoshop image really captured the “essence” of the figure, it looks fabulous!
oh man, I can’t believe people have her that haven’t even seen the series!
Black Lagoon as a story is just as much a masterpiece as this figure. (beautiful shots btw)
can’t believe i missed your auction 🙁 would have paid more than 230, that’s for sure.
it’s one of my personal goals in life to help everyone watch the series 😛
