As promised, the much anticipated review of Asuka on Motorcycle. I wasn’t even aware that my site has reached 61k hits now! But priorities first – a review of this absolutely amazing investment (yes, investment). More photos after the jump!
Asuka is a 1:6 scale figure, though I feel the approximation is closer to 1:5. I’ve never seen a 1:6 figure this big before. Her bent over is already comparible in height to many of my standing 1:6 scale figures (in retrospect, I should have taken a comparison shot).
The detail of this figure is absolutely amazing. The bike looks really good too! This combo really sells it as a complete package.
This was resin-casted and painted by the great gods at e2046 by Gathering. Made out of solid resin, she actually feels very sturdy, and VERY heavy compared to most kits I’ve seen. If you don’t know, the sculpt is done by Vispo. I unknowingly, am a fan of Vispo’s work. He also did Morte, as well as Raquel Goth, which I did buy, btw.
The decal work is incredibly well done. Pretty flawless!
Detail in the boot is nice. I kinda thought that the ring should be metallic colored though…
More awesome decaling, and the zipper is so cool! The sculpt of the leather looks totally awesome.
She has painted nails! I’m surprised at how well the detailing came out from this cast. I’m sure a lot of clean-up work was done to it too. The fitting was a little loose though. Her hand would fall out sometimes if I moved it. It’s essentially the handlebar keeping it in the socket.
The handlebar in itself deserves much attention. The different color/shine of the materials really bring realism to this already highly detailed aspect of this figure.
The wheels are awesome in detail too, though they don’t seem as clean edged as the rest of the figure. The wheels actually do turn, btw.
An e2046 exclusive is this awesome display base. It’s embedded with blue LEDs that light up the whole figure all around. Unfortunately, the one I received is broken somehow. The wiring was obviously done without any skill whatsoever. But I don’t really mind, since blue LEDs would make this figure look like crap anyway.
Visit the site. vispo.cc and check out the making of Asuka, as well as some other really cool stuff they’ve got. It’s amazing and worth looking.
A close up shot of the NERV logo, and gas cap. Check out Asuka’s necklace! <_<;
Speedometer. SO. DETAILED.
The rear… of the bike. GAINAX, and another Asuka logo. <_<;
She has a star on the back of her leather jacket! Very Rock Howard! <_<;
This is one of my favorite shots. The lighting, the spokes on the wheels, the chain, the angle… love it!
Somewhat redunant, but here’s her ass.
More amazing detail. This thing actually comes with a metal stand to hook onto the peg, like a real motorcycle. But I found that I don’t really need it since Asuka props it just nicely. Check out those spokes!!
The exhausts are quite nice.
Rear suspension. The cool thing? It actually works!!
Asuka’s amazing hair. It reminds me of Cheetos.
UCC Coffee in hand. Most excellent.
Vanity shot. *heart*
I’m normally a Rei fan, but seriously, Asuka makes the better appearance, hands down.
I’m very impressed at how clean the sculpt lines are, and how sharp everything is. Vispo did an excellent job, and Gathering an excellent job of casting this amazing figure.
Full shot. I was originally going to do an awesome awesome photoshop image idea, but couldn’t get the proper angle, or find the proper photograph for my needs. Looks like I probably won’t be getting a chance to do that anymore, as my interest in doing one for her as died.
This didn’t come with the figure, but I thought it was suitable.
This didn’t come with the figure either, but sits very nicely on the display base. It’s almost race-queen-like. So wraps up another figure review! Stay tuned for the rest of the week, as I’ve got a little something more to celebrate the 60k hits.
I always prefered Asuka to Rei. This figure is gorgeous. I have two Asuka’s… I didn’t even realise lol…. I try not to buy doubles of characters unless they’re specifically favourites of mine.
Love the redundant ass comment lol.
Just amazing detail here. 😛
very nice detail there!
but I don’t like how they sculpt her face (don’t like her expression…) 🙁 if they did it better, this figure would’ve become a must buy for me, since I’m a fan of Asuka
This is an absolutely gorgeous sculpt. Makes me want one…
Wow this figure is really awesome, Gorgeous Asuka
gorgeous looking asuka, though at certain angle the facial expression is not really nice though. but the detail and ll is just superb
hello RD, awesome review. i’m been lusting after this kit and the Rei counterpart one for ages but simply can’t afford it atm. thank you for temporarily satisfying my lustings, lol.
btw, would you kind inform me how you bought it and how much did it cost you to get it done so well? so i’ve a goal to work towards to. =P
Yeah nice asuka, superb detail.
however as many have pointed out, the face seems a lil too sharp, perhaps smoothening it a bit and it should be perfect, not to mention some shading details like blushes and eye shades
I likes wery, wery much. I would like to see something similar with Rei. Just for grins, what would this one cost?
@meimi: hee hee I too try not to buy doubles of a specific character, but that seems to happen with the absolute favorites. Happy you caught the ass comment. 😉
@ron: yeah, i can see how not very many people would be fond of her face. It’s kinda a Vispo thing. Personally, I love the style. It’s different from the typical moe/anime style with really unique features.
@asian ed: You could try ordering one from e2046 if you’re so inclined! At first, I was hesitant because of the price. Now I think it’s a steal!
@valho: you’re right about the facial expression. One eye is a little wider than the other. So at some angles it’s a little weird looking. Fortunately, it’s not a deal breaker, as the rest of the figure is amazing.
@Oni-Kun: I paid around $300 for it, AFAIR. I’m not sure if e2046 still has any in stock. That’s why you gotta preorder this stuff!
@Quazacolt: There does appear to be some paint issue with the eye. You can see a little bit of white bleeding through. Blush-wise, the color is correct. The camera didn’t capture it very well. It would look nicer if the blush was higher on the cheekbone, where it really should be. It’s bronzer that’s supposed to go under the cheekbone.
@battrastard: I don’t think I will be buying Rei. This cost roughly $300. A fair deal considering it’s professionally assembled and prepainted. Just the kit itself probably costs about $180, I’m guessing.
yeoch! now i remember why i couldn’t buy this kit at all. and expecting a PVC version is pointless as the quality can’t be compared, i think…
but if there was a coldcast version, i’d prolly get it! ^_^
@Oni-kun: You never know! There is a possibility of it becoming a PVC version. Blanc Neige Morte and Diana were originally Vispo resin kits that got reproduced as PVCs.
And Cold Cast is essentially resin. However, cold casting can’t get as sharp detail as regular resin casting. check my “Differences in Plastics” post and get educated!
Wow, I really like her, she is well detailed with a serious and none serious look to her. With sexiness to boot.
Nice review! I’m more of a Rei fan but this figure is just awesome, very detailed even to the finest bits.
I’m a big Rei fan too. Or at least that is what I am trying to believe. It seems that my Rei to Asuka ratio is leaning more towards Asuka’s favor at the moment. It changes sometimes though. 🙂
Whoa…just wow. That’s quite an amazing figure. Not the first Asuka I’ve seen on a bike but definitely the best. I’d be awfully tempted to buy a Rei version…
Thanks! Have you seen the Rei version? I can’t say it’s the best. Her expression looks blank, and her pose is a little off-balance looking. She doesn’t quite look nearly as impressive.
wedgie! 😛 but very nice details. Too bad not a fan of the face but overall very nicely done figure ^^ good day time pix too!
Nice pictures! I have both Asuka on bikes, still like the first one best lol
wait, why the 1st? this is the 2nd version, correct?
Gorgeous detail, I love the boots. Ya, if the ring was silver it would look nicer. The teeth on the zipper areas are sweet. Interesting that they made it so that the wheels can turn, but good as well.
Whoah nice pics! I mean I have to agree everything about her looks good… butterface… I’m starting to not mind the Gift Saber’s default face now, lol.
If I spend that kind of money, I’d pick my favourite character, Rei… even if I have a shrineful of her figures already XD
what’s butterface mean? If it’s being used to describe Asuka’s face, then I’d have to say I like butterface. 😉
I quite like Gift Saber’s default face. It’s a very unique, not-quite-so-anime face.
Apparently “butterface” means “but her face…” lol ^^;
Dang, and I thought it was something good… it’s not that bad. 🙂
Wow, the detail in that figure is just incredible. Too bad I can’t afford anything like that right now.
Another Sweet Gathering Work!
Im normally a Rei Person aswell but this one is too good to skip.
Nice work on the pics!
Whoa… This truely is an investment. The level of details is simply mindblowing!
The exhaust, the speedometer, suspensions (and it actually works?! o_O), gears, the zips… The details are there and the maker’s done them all, mechanical-wise.
But $300? I don’t think I would dare to pay so much (though there was a military model that costs around $500 that I have a mild interest on………. Forget about it), besides I don’t even know where I will put it!
All things considering, PVC figures cost around 68,00 yen. That’s $71 USD. Put in shipping of $25 USD, and that’s about $100! You buy three figures, and you can afford this one. It’s like buying a 1:4 scale Freeing, really. Plus it’s prepainted professionally, and most likely less than 500 run. I’d say $300 is a screaming deal. Otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it either.
Even though Vispo’s faces can be a little weird, you can’t deny that he’s got crazy sculpting talent. I bought the “Yoko 21 on Motorcycle” Gathering figure at e2046 and was absolutely blown away by the size and detail. She’s not as detailed as Asuka and Rei, but is still an impressive piece of resin.
Great photos. The Big E’s Gathering stuff is always a pleasure to look at.
It’s strange how I’m highly attracted to Vispo’s figures. Some of my favorites, I didn’t even know it was done by Vispo, because at the time I didn’t know who Vispo even was. It’s a shame though, now I really want Noir et Blanc Morte…
You gotta post pics of Yoko. I’d LOVE to see it!
I’m the same way with another sculptor: Bubba from Pla-Guild. It’s neat how you can keep coming across someone’s work without realizing it. Some of his best work is garage kit only, though. Max Factory’s Etna and Stellvia figures are some of his PVC works. Yamato’s also announced that they’re gonna give his Velvet (Odin Sphere) kit the PVC treatment. Yay!
You can check out my review of Yoko here: http://emencyblazer.wordpress.com/2008/09/16/yoko-littner/
I’ll hopefully be getting a much better camera soon. The photos I have of her currently don’t do her justice!
Bubba is absolutely amazing. I love his work too! It’s very unique, and his style isn’t always the same. I’m tempted to get Velvet to go along with my Gwendolyn, but Yamato? I’d be a little hesitant. Even their Creator’s Labo isn’t good enough quality imo. Mind you, the Mercedes coming out doesn’t look too hot either…
Still gonna keep my eye out for Velvet. She’s awesome!
The first picture in the other post had me steaming under the collar. These pictures means that I’m now looking for this and gonna get it. Absolutely loved the details the photos brought out and that pose is just… awesome.
Looks like you may be out of luck with that one. e2046 no longer has it in stock:
http://www.e2046.com/product.php?products_id=7700
But check out some of the other evangelion motorcycle figures they’ve got. There are some upcoming ones too:

Good luck in your search!
wooww that is cooll
Great work! Love the bike and the detail on Asuka is amazing.
That figure looks so real, its truly frightening. Epic piece nonetheless.
Wow! Such stunning detail! The section where the reviewer would normally list the weak points doesn’t really exist for this figure. It would be the broken LEDs and one stupid little ring that should’ve been metal. Bravo!
Yeah, the broken LEDs and the small little ring were honestly, the only faults I could find in this. It’s such an amazing figure, and e2046 did an absolutely amazing job with it.
