As per my post on figure.fm about what I should photoshop next, I took the suggestions, of Amrita and did Moka in a cemetery. Perfect for Halloween!
Here’s the original photo I took. My wife had taken my DSLR to work today, so I was left with my POS Lumix FX-9 camera. Now, normally I wouldn’t complain, since this was the camera I used for most of my early photoshop images. But having gone to DSLR, going back to using this was terrible. The post processing done to this thing by the camera really really sucks. The ISO rating is so terrible, with an incredibly crappy shutter speed.
Ugh! Just look at the terrible grain! And this is at forced ISO 80! And not to mention the slight blurring from my unsteady hand!
Here’s the background image I used. I grabbed it from here. A site with free photos for anyone to use. This was perfect for what I was looking for.
And the final image. Click on it for a bigger pic. It’s a bit bluer than what I was hoping for, but with how badly the lighting matched, there wasn’t anything else I could do to correct it.
Of course, here’s a youtube video of it being done:

Have a happy and safe Halloween everyone!
Edit: Corrected some things as per Pyauki’s suggestions.
Happy Halloween, cool photoshop as always…
Moka is a lovely figure and with that crazy hair of hers it makes the figure so dynamic even when she’s casually sitting on a cross. The images taken from the camera do look a tad grainy, but it’s hardly noticable when the image is not in full size.
The final image really is very glowy blue… (>_>) Understandable with the lighting problem and it does give off that cool bone-chilling vibe perfect for Halloween.
I’m a fan of huge gigantic moons in backgrounds, the impact of the moon in the image is not really noticeable, was there a reason for drawing a smaller moon? Other than taking off the focus of the figure?. I didn’t really notice the moon until I watched you paint it in the video. Some fog in the foreground would be cool too, to make the scene more mysterious and add depth. Also for a night scene everything’s surprisingly crisp and clear.
Thanks for the link to the reference images, that’s really helpful! \(^_^)/
You’re right about that moon. Since I’ve overblown the lighting for everything else, the moon seems very dark now. Originally, I painted it with the look of realism in mind, but the rest of the image is so surreal anyway, the moon needs to be compensated.
I think I need to make the fog denser in the further background to give it depth. Right now, the fog looks to have compressed the depth.
The crispness of the scene is necessary for a “night” shot like this, I think. The shadows are already pretty deep, but overall the background does need to be pushed back a bit more to make Moka look less like a giant. ^_^;
😮
I already said it: I wish I could photoshoping like you >.<
I look forward to watching your next vid 😉
Thanks Jintoo! 😀
Nice stuffs as usual man. Too bad I missed the figure else I might have been doing my own Halloween-themed shoot as well. But with things as they are now, it’s just as well I missed out on her I guess ^^; Though it might have been fun and experiences are pretty good to have for better or worse.
Going back to old cameras totally isn’t a fun experience once you got into a DSLR yeah? heheh. Though I’m of the opinion that graininess can add to the atmosphere, but I suppose the background used must be able to accommodate that of course.
In any case, Happy Halloween man! Any plans?
Thanks!
It would have been nice to see a Halloween theme shoot from you, but no biggie, I suppose. You got more important things to deal with. ^^
Yeah, my camera is garbage. lol. I didn’t realize how much better DSLRs were until I went back! I’ve been so used to how much better the DSLR is! And to think, last year I used this camera for my Halloween and Xmas photoshoots too!
Adding grain post shoot (IE, in photoshop) is a much better option than the grain from a bad ISO camera, since it’s more controlled.
I’ve got a Halloween party to go to tonight (actually, it’s more like Beatles Rockband party) but I’m not gonna dress up. (Or I could go as a ninja)
I want your skillZ!
lol! Just learn em! 😀
That was really impressive watching the video. Great job as always, Radiant!
It is quite blue… I really like the fog.
Thanks, Micchi! 😀
The blue is a bit disturbing to me… (not in a scary way, but in the artistic sense) But there isn’t much I can do to correct it unfortunately (unless I spend a wad-load of time on it, which I won’t).
Happy Halloween~!
I envy your photoshopping skills *stares in awe*
Thanks! Happy Halloween to you to!
Amazing. Simply amazing. O_O
I love seeing your work… I am artistically dum for that ;A;
Thanks! I’m glad you like it! 😀
Definitely my PSP wallie for the next month.
Nice work and just in time for halloween.
Impressive, beautiful and magical!
Thanks for the comments! Happy Halloween everyone!
Happy Halloween. Impressive photoshop with Moka there! I like it how you’ve chosen a cemetry to go with the cross Moka is sitting on, as well as the creepy coldish blue tone in the surroundings but warm blue aura around Moka 😮
Thanks Q! It was Amrita’s idea originally. I put up a poll on figure.fm for photoshop suggestions. 🙂
Is it wrong if the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw the photoshopped pic was that she seemed to have a big stick up the—? ^^U
I’m not sure how to make those kind of photoshops O_o boggles my mind silly, honestly. Maybe I should explore more with photoshop?
Wrong or not, it depends on what floats your boat I suppose.
Photoshop is an interesting piece of software, you can create anything from scratch with it, and you can throw a bunch of things at it and create stuff from it. Quite cool. 🙂
Great work! I am always amazed how you pull off that stuff.
Thanks Blowfish! ^_^
/orgasm
Gorgeous *-* One day I will play with Photoshop! Oneeeeee daaaaaayyyyy!
