I’ve had this ambitious idea in my mind for at least two months now (maybe even three). The original idea was to have them hold Playstation 3 controllers, since Konata is all about the Playstation. But well… I couldn’t get their hands to get close enough. Besides, Wii is way more of a party system anyway. More on how this images was accomplished after the jump!
The main reason I had been putting this off (except for Soul Calibur 4), was I wanted to find (or build) a room that was more plastic-cartoon like, especially the chair. Gave up on that pretty quickly. I decided the next best prop was L’s chair, but of course, it could only seat one.
The challenge was then to “extend” the chair to fit three people.
It got to the point where I could only use the center section as a connecting piece. I decided to put Miku in L’s chair for the other end.
The right side had to be cleared out, and then blended in with the extended piece. In addition, there was also L’s side that needed to blend in with the extension.
I can’t recall, but I think that was also the picture that I used to extract Konata. One thing I didn’t account for, which I stupidly forgot, was that L’s chair was blocking a part of his butt and his leg. By the time I realized this, it was way too late. So what I did was literally paint in that section with a 75% hard round brush.
Not the perfect solution, but at low-res, it passes.
I had decided that instead of taking pictures of Wii Remotes, and trying to fuss around trying to get it to fit in their hands properly, I painted them.
I really didn’t want to bother, and it was good practice in picking the right colors and tonal values. Of course, up close, it looks pretty apparent that they were painted in, but again, at a lower resolution, it passes. If I ever decide to print this image one day and frame it, I might regret painting this stuff in…
Look! What’s in the shelf?
One thing that I had to do for this shot was relocate my Wii so that it was a little more obvious on what these guys were doing. But I was too lazy to unhook and rehook the cords to turn on the Wii. I figure I could do that in Photoshop.
The part that I’m most happy with are the shadows and reflections. The shadows are done using a solid black layer with gaussian blur, as I always do, and then using a blend mode to make it match accordingly. The reflections were done by duplicating the image, flipping it, and then applying transforms to it in order to make it fit.
Now, there’s something a little unusual about this image. Can you spot it?
Well, that concludes another photoshop. I’m glad to have finally gotten this one out of the way. It took me a little while to figure out how to problem solve things, but I think I learned a lot out of it.
Feedback and comments appreciated! Until next time!
Excellent!
For the last picture, I notice carpet or something under the back left chair leg.
Miku’s(Yuki’s) legs’ reflection is forced in by error, though, not because it uses color burn blending, but because her feet shouldn’t be shown as it is not reflected relative to the chair.
NO WAY……….This is so cute! Really, nice work. I like how the light reflects off of their heads.
And I assume the pantsu shot was not intentional this time?
You finally finished it and it looks AWESOME! I did notice that Miku is missing one of her square headband things and the chair isn’t exactly aligned straight, but that’s just nit-picking. I really love the detail you put into this from putting figures in the shelves to the reflection on the hardwood floor.
Regarding Nanu’s comment about Miku’s legs I agree, the hardwood floor acts like a mirror and I think the legs are far apart enough from the ground not to be reflected that high.
Other than that, I think you did an amazing amazing job on the sofa and especially the Wii-motes. It definitely looks like the real thing at low res.
What would be cool though is if the picture was set in the evening, so that the glow of the television could be seen. Then you can have a reflection of the tv screen on L’s huge eyeballs
@ nanu : Wow, you’re able to pick out some pretty good misses on that last picture! I was definitely looking for the obvious answer (and you hinted at it very well btw). You’re right, the reflection is very much forced. It takes away from the realism of it, but I think it adds a bit of interest to it as well. The hardwood should not be that reflective at all. You can see that in the original picture as well – very matted.
Thanks for noticing! I might go back and fix some of these errors.
@ booze : you’re right, the pantsu shot was not intentional – it was definitely more on the unavoidable side. Not a pretty pantsu shot I’d like to show off anyway. Nendoroid booty ain’t my taste. 😉
@ Kin : I love how my close friends have a sort of “inside scoop” on what I intend to do next! 😀
Actually, the square scrunchie is there – the angle is hiding it from the picture. I know it looks a bit strange, but that’s how it is!
The reflection on Miku’s legs are a bit too close. Technically, it should be completely off screen, if you consider the height relation between the chair leg and her leg. Looks like my errors are making it difficult to spot the answer I was hoping for in the last pic. 🙂
I had thought about evening, but it may also be too dark. I really wanted to bring out the bright and fun colors of the Nendoroid figures and daylight seemed to have “stuck” in my head. Good idea on the TV glow though! That would have really added to it!
that is pretty cool and funny. it seems that konata is owning L and miku, lol
you photoshopped miku’s shoes in the last image?
overall very cute work ^^
Yeah, it takes a bit of thinking to explain the reflection error; it dawned on me when visualizing her feet being stretched to the floor, that they are indeed in front of the couch.
I’ve done only one figure composite but hats off to you, after I discovered your site.
Holy crap thats cool…. I wish to be as good as that when I finally get my hands on photoshop and have a play about.
genius! love the shot ^_^
I see you slipped a PS3 in next to the Wii. XD
Despite the minor errors, it’s still a very good photomanip. It had to have taken forever and a day. o.o
p.s. carmel dansen shana is ???? ^_^ {chou kawaii}
Images like these always make me wonder what game they are playing? xD
Awesome work ^^d
This is honestly one of the best nendoroid shops I’ve seen. Amazing.
wow, it looks absolutely amazing. The effort you took for this image really shows through.
I like how even the expression for each of the Nendoroids works very well. Considering they are playing a game, you have Konata who looks like she’s just wining the game easily, which is obviously in character and L and Miku who are in shock that they’re probably losing so badly. Well, at least that’s the impression I get when I see it…
Another great image, but we weren’t expecting anything less of course! 😀 Thank you!
@ Otakudan : Yes, Konata is definitely pwning everybody. 🙂
@ Chun : Yes, they are photoshopped, but specifically?
@ nanu : Sweet! I haven’t seen your composite! BTW, I LOVE your flying Miku photo. How was that accomplished? My guess is that you photographed her under glass.
@ meimi : Photoshop is definitely fun! Good luck!
@ meronpan : ha ha that Shana is there as an attention getting device. She most definitely is one!
@ optic : lol! Super Smash Bros Brawl! What else? XD Actually, I’d like to know too! 😛
@ ClearTranquil : Thanks! There will be many more a photo with Nendoroids, I’m sure! Keep checking back!
@ Lostty : That’s definitely the idea. I was contemplating whether to use that expression, or her ultra-happy expression. Either one would have worked, I suppose. But I kind of see Konata as a calm gamer. 🙂
Awesome work, mate! ^_^
That’s really a sweet image.
Very nice photoshopping! ^^
Awesome!
Man, this is pure WIN! I absolutely love it!
Thanks for sharing!
Well, Miku’s original legs from the actual photo looks like legs of Yuki Nagato’s sitting legs?
nice work for this one 🙂 although I find miku reflection is a lil bit strange (but maybe only just me..) 🙂
Really awesome work. Makes me want to learn photoshop w/o sleep.
Really nicely done. I like how the facial expressions complement each other nicely. Keep it up!
That’s pretty impressive! I’ve hardly ever touched Photoshop so it’s all @_@ to me… You surely have put in a lot of effort for this!
Btw I somehow find it strange how the colour of the part where L’s sitting on seems different to the extended section. This is noticeable around L’s right leg.
@Radiant: my content is poorly organized, I guess :7
re: flying Miku: I used fishing line and edited it out.
Amazing work, it’s almost scarily realistic xP
Thanks everyone!
@chun : yes! It’s Yuki’s legs! She was so wobbly trying to balance on them because they didn’t actually fit. I then photoshopped the colors in to make them Miku’s boots.
@ron : yeah, the reflection is definitely a bit off.
@ Q : yeah, there is some weird coloration going on with the couch. I may have fixed it in a different version which I didn’t upload.
@ nanu: fishing line! VERY impressive. What did you attach the fishing line to?
@ Eternal : yeah, especially L, eh? those eyes are HUUUUUUGE!
I wish I would have gotten it sooner
I put off buying a Wii for a long time. We’re adults, in our 50’s and not really gamers other than solitaire on the computer. I figured it was mostly for kids or that it was too cartoony and it wouldn’t get used. I even left it in the box for 4 days because I thought I might bring it back. When I finally decided to keep it I put off “installing” it because I thought it might be complicated and take a long time. It was only 3 clearly marked cords to hook to the back of the TV and into the unit, and the sensor into the unit.
Well, it took me about 5 minutes to hook it up (It would have taken 3 but I had to crawl around back of the TV stand) and as soon as we started it up I could see it was something we were going to like. Bowling was the first thing I tried and couldn’t believe how realistic it was. I even have the same hook on the ball that I do in real life. After that it was tennis, then baseball, then golf and boxing. I was surprised at how much exercise the tennis and boxing provided. It was definitely a fun thing to play with.
Two nights later we had friends over, 12 people in all and the people from across the street wanted to see the Wii. I put on the bowling game, got 4 volunteers to play and that was it for the night. Everyone was screaming when someone got a spare or a strike and they went on to play tennis, baseball, golf and boxing. Fortunately dinner was stuff that could be served buffet style because everyone was gathered around the TV watching or playing the games, with plates their laps or at the kitchen table which has a clear view of the family room. Two of the people ended up buying Wii’s the following week.
I’m mostly into it for the exercise aspect and we’ve gotten the Wii Fit and the Outdoor Challenge which are both great. But there are lots more games that “get you up off the couch” coming out and now having tried a few, I can’t wait to get them. Two thumbs up for this game console!
i like the first picture with the characters playing the wii. it is so cute
Heh Hi Radiant!! I know this post is a bit old haha I think I am very inspired by your photoshop works!! I’ll just want to ask if I am able to replicate this using freeware like GIMP (budget constraints due to wedding coming!!)
And really fantastic seeing you used photoshop to give nendoroids even more life and fun 😀
hi Chubbybots! No worries, I check all my comments, no matter where they are posted. 🙂
Yes, GIMP is definitely possible to use to replicate things like this. It’s a very powerful tool! Congratulations on your wedding! Such good news! I wish you and your wife a long and loving marriage!
Thanks for the comment! :3
