Neogaf suddenly popped up with a Gameboy Micro <3 thread, so I decided to join in. I know that I said I wouldn’t be doing any review photos during my temporary gear shift, but I couldn’t help myself with this. There was so much Micro love going around on that thread; people were buying them because of the thread. Plus it’s my blog, so I can do whatever. muahaha.

Moe Passion Mascot Contest (and other stuff)

Comrade Punynari decided to hold a contest for artists to design a new mascot for his site, Moe Passion. He used a moe character generator (more info on his site), to design the mascot, but wanted something with a little more artistic liberty to fit with his site’s main theme – being a blog of a US sailor and otaku. His design was quite interesting, and very impressionable to me, so I gladly took on the challenge. That and he also wanted to draw on a Navy motif gave me just the inspiration I needed in order to make his mascot Sakura more unique. Drawing this style was definitely out of my comfort zone, as I don’t do a lot of moe feeling characters. That and I’ve still yet to grasp the subtle nuances of the loli-moe proportions.

Finally Finished Final Fantasy XII

One of my reasons for laying off the blogging for a bit was to finish Final Fantasy XII. Now, at 10:40pm, I’ve got a little bit of breathing room before I tackle my next game, Final Fantasy XIII. (my order has been delayed). So what of this 3-year old Playstation 2 game? To sum it up, I think Final Fantasy XII is “Final Fantasy Done Right”. I’m not going to go into a review or anything, but more like pick out the concepts that made XII one of the better games in the series.

This week, I got two figures within 24hrs of each other. First was Supercell Miku Hatsune (The World Is Mine), and the next day, Black Rock Shooter. I took some pictures, but for some reason, didn’t feel like doing a photoshop of either of them this week. Not sure why. Oh well. My blog isn’t about catching the latest greatest trends anyway! It’s about sharing what I love. ^_^ So instead, I drew a fan art. Last night, I was up from 10pm until 2pm, reading Death Note. I’d already finished reading it before, but something about it is just gripping. I really enjoyed it. I was looking for a picture of L facing forward to use as reference. Interestingly, I only found 2 (and they’re not good shots). Every other shot of L shows him either 3/4 view, profile, or just slightly between front and 3/4 view. It was a little frustrating, but an interesting find. So today, I decided to paint up L from Death Note. He’s my favorite. I like how goofy he is, yet so lethally smart. My very first anime convention, and it was the incredibly awesome Anime Festival Asia in Singapore. While many people chose to focus on the merchandise, I decided to focus on the participants of the con – the cosplayers. SIXTY crazy photos ahead! With Singapore being the next most proliferate anime hub, the cosplayers have quite the reputation to hold up, and it doesn’t disappoint.

How? Some of you may remember my article “Are you a Hentai-Otaku?!” of heated debate. This article is no different. So my wife watches anime based on eroge. She’s also fine with yuri, and she quite enjoyed a series full of otaku-trivia. Before all that, she was never interested in anime, and never really appreciated the art style. So how did it happen? You want your significant other to enjoy anime with you too? I might not have the answer specifically for you, but my story may provide you with some insight. (note this only covers anime series, and not OVAs or movies)

Kashimashi

Going through my anime backlog, I decided to give Kashimashi a try. Having watched Kanon with my wife, it was a bit depressing. Rizelmine helped with that but it was a little silly. I’ve read a few volumes of Kashimashi, and quite enjoyed it. It was a decent romance, with some light-hearted humor to it, so I thought my wife might enjoy it.
