A lot of stuff has happened in these past couple of weeks that I’d like to post about, but really lack the time. I fixed a couple of broken figures, cleaned figures, got new figures, I actually attended an Olympic event, and did some commission work. In addition, I’ve been working like a fiend on my new iPhone game. I’ve also been playing a lot of Resonance of Fate (yes, it won me over Final Fantasy XIII) and thoroughly enjoying it. It reminds me a lot of Valkyria Chronicles for some reason, which was also epic.

Neogaf suddenly popped up with a Gameboy Micro <3 thread, so I decided to join in. I know that I said I wouldn’t be doing any review photos during my temporary gear shift, but I couldn’t help myself with this. There was so much Micro love going around on that thread; people were buying them because of the thread. Plus it’s my blog, so I can do whatever. muahaha.

Moe Passion Mascot Contest (and other stuff)

Comrade Punynari decided to hold a contest for artists to design a new mascot for his site, Moe Passion. He used a moe character generator (more info on his site), to design the mascot, but wanted something with a little more artistic liberty to fit with his site’s main theme – being a blog of a US sailor and otaku. His design was quite interesting, and very impressionable to me, so I gladly took on the challenge. That and he also wanted to draw on a Navy motif gave me just the inspiration I needed in order to make his mascot Sakura more unique. Drawing this style was definitely out of my comfort zone, as I don’t do a lot of moe feeling characters. That and I’ve still yet to grasp the subtle nuances of the loli-moe proportions.

Finally Finished Final Fantasy XII

One of my reasons for laying off the blogging for a bit was to finish Final Fantasy XII. Now, at 10:40pm, I’ve got a little bit of breathing room before I tackle my next game, Final Fantasy XIII. (my order has been delayed). So what of this 3-year old Playstation 2 game? To sum it up, I think Final Fantasy XII is “Final Fantasy Done Right”. I’m not going to go into a review or anything, but more like pick out the concepts that made XII one of the better games in the series.

Improv Painting, Unexpected Purchase

An unexpected purchase last Friday – I went to Aberdeen Center and saw Ruka for sale at one of the figure shops. Many bootleg nendoroids around, but I could tell this one was authentic. My Ritsu arrived in the mail on the same day too. Two more to go, and my K-On! collection will be complete. I’ve got a special photoshop idea in mind once that happens. A new painting that I did. Only took about 5 or 6 hours, this one. It’s sorta “improv” painting. No reference photos or anything, and just paint whatever comes at the moment. Changing Gears

Sorry for the complete lack of updates last week, as well as my lack of responding to all your comments. I’ve been quite busy with work lately, and I’ve also been laying it pretty hard with gaming (I finished three games this February!) I’m going to switch gears for a little bit, and change my priorities. With work coming on heavy, and me wanting to fit in more gaming, I’ll have less time to blog. [Edit: Added for clarification] What does this mean? This does NOT mean I’m stopping blogging. I’ll still be doing posts. Posting frequency will change – It may not be on time anymore. No figure reviews – it takes a lot of time to snap photos, and even more time to process and type stuff for them. More art – basically, more sketching, sometimes a full image. Photoshopping – may become more frequent, or less frequent. Dunno! Special features dropped – articles like Anime Pride, Current Collection, etc. will be put on hold for a while. I’m sure most of you have come up against the problem of owning too many anime figures, that you’re running out of room. My own personal solution is to rotate them, and keep some of them in storage. This week, I got two figures within 24hrs of each other. First was Supercell Miku Hatsune (The World Is Mine), and the next day, Black Rock Shooter. I took some pictures, but for some reason, didn’t feel like doing a photoshop of either of them this week. Not sure why. Oh well. My blog isn’t about catching the latest greatest trends anyway! It’s about sharing what I love. ^_^ So instead, I drew a fan art. Last night, I was up from 10pm until 2pm, reading Death Note. I’d already finished reading it before, but something about it is just gripping. I really enjoyed it. I was looking for a picture of L facing forward to use as reference. Interestingly, I only found 2 (and they’re not good shots). Every other shot of L shows him either 3/4 view, profile, or just slightly between front and 3/4 view. It was a little frustrating, but an interesting find. So today, I decided to paint up L from Death Note. He’s my favorite. I like how goofy he is, yet so lethally smart. Happy Holidays! It’s the holiday season! With Christmas fast approaching, I thought I’d celebrate by creating a photoshop of a Xmas Miku! I was going to do this photoshop on Friday, but guessing from how busy Christmas Day will be, I figure I’d do an early photoshop post this week instead. This actually took a bit longer than I had expected, but it turned out pretty good. Click on the image for a 1280 wallpaper! I’m not 100% sold on the hat. I guess part of it is because it still looks so much more detailed and sharp compared to the simple design of a nendoroid. Plus the lighting is wrong to begin with.
